Is to help the East Asain community by providing a safe and welcoming
environment to talk and deal with mental health.
Hong Fook Youth Advisory Committee
The Hong Fook Mental Health Wellness website is developed and designed by the HF Youth Advisory Committee. Through this website, we hope to educate the East Asian community about mental health and illnesses. Our goal is to provide a safe and welcoming place to talk about mental health and illnesses and develop self-care/wellbeing practices. There is so much more that unites us as humans than that which divides us. We all have a deep-rooted need for communal support. We all feel physically better when our minds are in good shape, and we all could benefit from a less cluttered routine.
We are thrilled that we get to explore these topics together. We are here not to teach you, but to learn with you, as we navigate life’s seasons. This is a safe space. Let’s throw all stigmas out the window as we work to increase our wellness of body and spirit.
MEET THE TEAM
On the Youth Advisory Committee, the team is split into content creators and graphic designers. Content creators are responsible for conducting research on various mental illnesses and coping mechanisms. The graphic designers are the bridge between the content creators and the audience, helping us design the website to effectively communicate the information we gathered.
Hi everyone! My name is Hilary and I am one of the graphic designers on the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). I am a grade 12 student, an advocate for student mental health, a STEM enthusiast and a fan of all things Disney. Currently, I am enrolled in my high school's Specialist High Skills Major program (SHSM) with a focus on information and communication technology. When I am not studying, I enjoy graphic designing for non-profit organizations, computer programming and learning more about user experience (UX) design. I have been a part of YAC for nearly 3 years and I look forward to working with the rest of the team to create a website to promote mental health and mental illness!
My name is Meredith Shao and I joined to help spread awareness of mental illness. This year my participation in YAC’s project will help those who need it. If you ask me, making a space safe for others to learn and feel secure is essential.
My goal is to help those who feel down and want someone to talk to or a place to hear support from others. There are moments in life when it can be hard and times when you feel down. But always remember there will be people for you even if you’ve never met them.
